Major innitiatives under RMK-10 (Related to Construction Industry)

  • Construction is not one of the National Key Economic Area but certainly an important enbler to NKEA. 60% out of RM 230 Billion is for physical development
  • An international financial district, redevelopment of Sungai Besi airport, township development in Sungai Buloh, establishig world class convention facilities at Jalan Duta, redevelopment of Angkasapuri into a new Media City, and a Malaysia Truly Asia Centre
  • Major investments in public transport include expansion of the Kuala Lumpur Light Rail Transit (LRT) coverage and implementation of a high capacity Mass Rapid Transit system (MRT)
  • Urban rejuvenation efforts to restore and protect heritage buildings and to unlock development value of land such as Kampung Baru urban redevelopment in Kuala Lumpur
  • Total 161,000 public houses to be constructed from 2011-2015. 78,000 affordable housing to be built for urban/semi urban poor
  • 8 new highways and expressways to be constructed under PFI/PPP scheme
  • RM 2.7 Billion to build road and rail to key ports and airport to improve trade efficiency and logistic system
  • Development of alternative source of energy by 2015
  • 6312 km (peninsular), 2540 km (sarawak)and 2819 km (sabah) of new road effecting 3.3 million users
  • 197 new clinics costing RM 637 million will be completed in the first half of RMK-10
  • 4 new and 4 replacement hospital costing RM 600 million including National Cancer Institute
  • RM 140 million for 100 new schools
